The TomTom GO 740 Live is the manufacturer’s first connected-GPS device, offering up-to-the-minute traffic data, weather forecasts, fuel prices, and Local Search powered by Google. Map Share and IQ Routes technologies allow map data to be updated more frequently. Bluetooth hands-free calling and voice command help the driver to keep both hands on the wheel.

We had the pleasure of going hands-on with the device, and we’re pleased with what
we’ve seen so far. Its built-in SIM card support and GPRS modem keep it connected
for updates, but more importantly, for Google search and traffic information. Thanks
to its GPRS receiver, the device can grab live traffic every 2 to 5 minutes along
your route. It will then suggest an alternate route to help save time. We also love
that you can place phone calls using its integrated stereo Bluetooth support, or
use its voice support for searching simply by speaking your destination.

We’ve seen connected GPS before but this unit impressed us as finally getting all of the elements right and perhaps kick-starting a sector going forward.

“TomTom GO 740 LIVE Review: State of the Art in Connected Car GPS”
The race is on to add connected services such as local search, accurate real-time traffic detection and avoidance, fuel prices, more frequent map updates, and more to in-car portable GPS devices. TomTom has a very strong entry in this category with the GO 740 LIVE. The GO 740 links to real-time data via a built-in cellular connection.
